Sixpenny Island Oysters
LOCAL.SUSTAINABLE.DELICIOUS.
Welcome to Sixpenny Oyster Farm
Sixpenny Oyster Farm is a small family-run ocean farm in Noank, Connecticut — a charming, tucked-away coastal town in Southeastern Connecticut, where the spirit of a traditional New England fishing village thrives with a close-knit community at its core. We're proud to grow delicious oysters while supporting the planet with a net-positive carbon footprint. For us, farming oysters isn’t just a job—it’s a way to keep our waters clean and our community strong.
Inspiring Tomorrow's Ocean Stewards
At Sixpenny Oyster Farm, we're passionate about sparking curiosity and inspiring future environmental stewards through education and outreach. Our innovative SHUCKS program (Sharing Hands-On Understanding and Cultivating Knowledge on Shellfish), backed by CT Sea Grant and The Nature Conservancy, welcomes interns to explore shellfish farming, gaining hands-on experience that encourages industry growth and awareness. We also host Southeastern Connecticut schools for farm tours, deliver engaging classroom talks—from UConn to local high schools and elementary schools—and collaborate with UConn on research to advance sustainable oyster farming practices.
“We all share these waters, so it’s on all of us to care for them—and in return, they’ll keep caring for us.”
At Sixpenny Oyster Farm, every oyster tells a story of sustainability, community, and a whole lot of love for our oceans. Come visit, learn, and experience our labor of love—we can’t wait to share a piece of our journey with you.
Flavor Profile
sixpenny oysters have a distinct briny taste that is reminiscent of the sea.
They have a smooth, velvety texture and an exceptionally clean finish. Mild mineral notes give the oyster a slightly earthy flavor that balances out the saltiness, making it a well rounded and complex taste experience.
Our PROMISE
